  1. Hey everyone. We have a fairly large announcement to make! Since September 2014, we have had our eyes on a prize. We have been after this particular thing since day one. And today, it is finally ours. We officially own chaoticunited.com. At the moment, the website domain redirects to chaoticunited.net, mc.chaoticunited.com points to our MC server, and ts.chaoticunited.com points to our TeamSpeak (yes, we still have a TeamSpeak). For those of you who are new aboard the CU train, let me explain the significance of this domain name. The old CU ran on this domain from 2011 to 2013, and it was used by HurricaneCraft in 2014. Since the old CU shut down, the domain was in the hands of either Killerteddy, the former owner of CU, or perhaps one of its higher admins such as Spencer. We really never found out. But a few months ago, the domain changed hands. It was in the hands of a domain reseller called New Ventures Services. We had a run-in with them in the past as they had the domain tidalwavegaming.com for a good while until a couple years later when the domain went from them onto many other domain resellers and eventually expired. By that point, I was able to reacquire it. The beloved chaoticunited.com was a different story. Unlike TWG.com, it had a long history of having massive amounts of traffic for years. TidalWaveGaming did not get anywhere near as big and thus is why it was dropped - as nobody was going to pay $1300 dollars for a domain with next to no traffic. CU.com had tons of traffic and due to the domain's shaky status of going in and out of availability, we jumped on the opportunity and obtained the domain. For the foreseeable future, we will continue to have our site on chaoticunited.net as we have spent the past three years building the new CU on this new domain. We may migrate everything back to .com, or we may not. At this point we have not decided what exactly to do with it - although we have a couple ideas. Overall, we don't want to throw the domain to the side and leave it as a redirect forever, but we also don't want to do that to CU.net which has housed CU since the revival started. What we end up doing is yet to be seen, but for right now, we did it. This is truly a milestone in CU history - one of the biggest ones we could hope to achieve. Moving forward, there is now no other milestone next besides growing the community - and that is what we plan to do. We have a lot of plans behind the scenes for a relaunch of CU as we stated before. And now, with this domain, that relaunch is going to be more epic than ever. Have you been banned before?: 2 times Why should you be unbanned?: I'm sorry to anyone I hurt. I - in general, as a person - don't like hurting people. I'm known to sometimes fly off the handle and become someone who I am not. Not much more to say other than that. The rest is up to everyone else. Is there anything else you want to say?: evie convinced me to do this What would you do if you were unbanned?: beat my meat

  5. Sup Bitches, I know you all remember me and still don't wanna give me OP, whatever. I have a suggestion take it or leave it, but I see a lot of potential in chaotic united not as a server but as a community. The main reason its doing completely garbage is because you're holding onto minecraft. Minecraft it self is dead, so any community related to it will also be dead. Now I am not saying get rid of minecraft because halo has an awkward fetish with blocks but maybe instead turn this into a gaming community. You have everything you need to set your self up for success, but you fail at using it. IPB is a powerful system, and it looks like you guys got it all down pact, except no one wants a whole forums based off minecraft. The old chaotic united was obliviously popping because minecraft was popping, what they did was take what was popular, offer a platform for people to connect on, and add a little twist of customization to keep it going. Example: World of Warcraft Indeed it was a very popular game around 2012 or whatever, so what did the owner decide to do, create a platform for players to interact, then invested in a private custom server to keep those players attracted. Example 2: Runescape It was very popular around the same time, and once again create a platform base for players to interact and socialize, trade ect for the game, invest in a private server to keep the player base connected and involved. Then minecraft you already know how that went. Those games obviously died out but by that time killerteddy knew that and was already planning on switching the game plan. Unfortunately the trail of stupidity caught up to him and he lost everything he had setup in place to keep the dream going. If you guys instead turned this into a hub focused on gaming as a whole, then the players will flow in from those games and hopefully feed off into other games as well. WoW players would hop on MC for a bit, MC players would hop on runescape for a bit so on and so forth, because all those platforms were offered within the same community, friends can go play mc together, then to collect money in runescape or whatever you do in runescape I never played it really. I think in order to achieve this a clean start, or a re make and re open is in order to clear out all the old and re brand and re image chaotic united for what it originally was, a gaming community because that's what everyone misses, the community aspect. Times have changed and chaotic needs the same.

    MC 1.12

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd let you guys you know our plans for 1.12. You may recall last year when we did our official relaunch. The original plan for this was to rebuild our MC server from the ground up and, well, re-launch. The major problem in the way that was executed is that at the time we had one physical server to work with and that was it. As a result, the MC server was inaccessible to normal users and thus a lot of potential traffic was simply lost. During a large portion of the time, myself and many other staff members were effectively "on break", mine of which was pulled to a screeching halt when I learned that Nuclear District planned to close. After that fact, we wanted to just get MC back online, and thus, no real major changes were made and we merely had the same server with a fresh coat of paint. Nowadays, however, we are not in this position. I have a personal server of mine that nowadays is used for testing out CU servers. Most of the things detailed in CU Updates #17 will make their debut on 1.12. This time around, we are going to do a real relaunch. And this time, there is no pressure on us to rush everything just to get a server up. We can take as much time as we need without making you guys be unable to have anything to play. Some of the work for 1.12 has already been done, actually. Mostly in regards to spawns and builds. So far, we have gotten a handful of additions suggested by you guys for Brink of Chaos mods. But now, I want to ask you guys what you want to see on our vanilla server. Any particular features or plugins or gamemodes you'd like to see on the next iteration of Chaotic United Minecraft, just as before, send me or any other staff a message, be it public or private, with your suggestion. If it is feasible and everything is compatible, then you can expect to see it make an appearance. Just know that due to our still limited resources, that we can't add literally every mode ever created (yet), and thus the most popular suggestions will be prioritized (this mostly applies to gamemodes. If you just have a simple addition to the server or a specific mode, this isn't as much of an issue). That's all for now, folks! We hope to see you all on 1.12 and beyond!

  12. Hey, guys. It's been a rough couple of days here for me and undoubtedly for several of you as well. As you all have probably heard by now, Wind has decided to leave us and CU behind. For how long, who knows. The way he decided to go about it resulted in him being kicked and later banned from the community due to the repeated hostility he's expressed towards everyone - myself included. I've known Wind since 2016. He first returned to CU under the name Arlem. He was a guy who was talented at building and was adamant about never using WorldEdit, and played a hefty amount of Paragon. Over time, we grew to become close friends, knowing all the deepest secrets about each other. Always being by the other's side no matter how bad it got. Unfortunately, it seems that at this time, that friendship has been severed - possibly even for good. It's been under considerable strain for the past couple months. I have no doubt it's been playing a part in why I've failed to be productive, both within CU and in my own personal life. Several situations have come up over the past month or so that have done nothing but cause me to be an emotional wreck. He's gone off on people, and gone off on me most of all. I think that "oh he's just in a shit mood and he'll come out of it in a day or two", only to then hear how he's talking normally to someone else - which fucking kills me - because it makes me think that maybe he won't come out of it, that maybe this really is how he feels and what he thinks. It makes it feel as though the friendship we've had genuinely does mean absolutely nothing, that maybe he truly does believe I'm as good as dirt. That I'm just a piece of shit, or that I may as well go back to being a cum stain on my mother's back, and that I should go to hell. I wanted to be there for him whenever he needed me. I wanted to be there through the good and the bad, the same way I have been for the past 4 years. But I can't keep being the punching bag every time something like this happens. I love the dude - I really do. But I've reached the limit of what I can handle. Originally I was going to wait for him to come around, to wait and see if he'd come around. I want to stick by his side the way I always have. But I can't. Not anymore. Not until he gets the help he needs. I can't help him anymore. I've been trying for years, and where did that leave me? Alone, miserable, and broken. Last night, I reached my breaking point. I cried for the first time in nearly a decade. It started when he got online as an alt under the name "Toiletwhistle", and had only two messages: My mood was just starting to come up a bit when this happened. Minutes later, espon (wolfbitez) mentioned that Wind was seemingly still talking to him - which of course had me fucked up since it suggests that Wind doing this isn't just one of his episodes, though it seems so clear that it must be - right? I felt massive rush of anger and frustration - venting to a few people in voice chat which built up to me standing out of my seat and shouting my words. I went into the hallway towards the storage room, let out the loudest scream I could, started banging on the door - and then the tears came. I broke down - right in Discord for everyone to see the absolutely pitiful mess of a person I'd been reduced to. I had to be moved to the Staff channel since I was obviously not gonna come over and move myself. That's the state of mind that one of my best friend put me in. That's what Wind did to me. How can I in good faith call someone a friend when that's the kind of shit they do to me? I can't. That being said, my hope is that this won't be permanent. I don't hate Wind. I pray that he'll come back around. I pray that this is just another one of his episodes - that this isn't really him. But I can't let myself get dragged down with him. It's crushing me. It's driving me insane. It's pushing me to and beyond my breaking point. Everyone has their limits as to what they can take. I think that, unfortunately, I've reached mine. Taking Some Time Off Yesterday I was banned from his server, blocked on Discord and later he got on MC just to remind me that I'm a piece of shit. Other staff members banned him from CU - but I've taken it upon myself to ban him from Elaztek and block him myself. I pray that this won't have to be a forever thing - that maybe he'll come back around, realize how awful he's treated myself and everyone else, and get the help he so desperately needs. I feel like shit doing this. It'll likely haunt me for a long time still - but it's better than being abused like this all the time, I guess. This combined with gradual fatigue and frustration with everything has brought me to the decision to take a break. I've been wanting to work on stuff for Elaztek Studios for a while now, but have felt too obligated to CU - what with the increasing player counts and massive amounts of donations - to step away. As much as I was hoping to avoid this - I've got to look out for my own mental health. The past months have left me shattered and broken. I begin to dread getting up for fear of what awaits me on Discord. It's a feeling I haven't felt since 2017 - except it's different this time. At least in 2017, Wind didn't hate me. He only hated the decisions I was making. Now, it seems that the target of his wrath isn't my actions, but me. If you're worried that I might not come back - don't be. In fact that's largely why I'm taking a break. Just as I've cut off Wind in an effort to preserve whatever may be left between he and I in the hopes we can come back together later, I'm taking a break from CU now to ensure I don't reach a point where I want to rid myself of being an owner on the community. I love CU and I love the community it has. It's truly satisfying and amazing to see that, while we may not have yet achieved the larger playerbase I'd love to have - we're still here. We've got a tightly-knit community here where everyone is a friend, and that's pretty damn cool. The plan is to, upon returning, be eager to get back to work on the server. Whether or not that'll happen, I can't yet say. Of course it also depends how long the break is. I don't know how long this break will be. It could be just a few days, it might be weeks, it may even be a month or two. I don't know yet. But it's apparent to me that I need to take some time away from CU. To Wind Wind, if you're reading this, know that I don't hate you. I love you - the real you. I want nothing more than my friend back. That's why I have to do this. I have to cut you off for now until you get better. Believe me I feel like absolute shit doing it. But I don't want to grow to hate you. I want to someday see you get the help you need - real help, not the "help" you got before - and that the two of us can reunite and go drink a couple Capri-Sun™s together or some shit. I pray that that day comes sooner rather than later. But I can't keep going through this, man. You're dragging me down with you. These past months have been unbearable for me, and nearly everyone I've talked to has been telling me since it began that I should cut you off. And at this point, after breaking down to tears in front of effectively everyone - I can't argue with them anymore. Please come back. Get the help you need and come back. Once you do I'll happily welcome you back in with open arms. But I can't take the abuse anymore. I hope you understand. If you think that me doing this is a dick move to do, I understand. If you want to never talk to me again because of it - it sucks, it hurts, but I understand. I didn't come to this decision lightly, if that makes it any better. I'm not removing your plugins. I won't erase your work. You've contributed massively to CU and I can never thank you enough - and I'll see to it that people remember you because of it, whether you return or not. Where to Find Me So, where will I be during this break? I'll be camping out over at Elaztek Studios primarily. If you wanna keep up with what I'll be up to or keep on talking to me in voice chat, you're free to hop into the Elaztek Discord. Fun fact - the Premiums and Veterans among you will get your ranks back upon joining over. If other people are over there, you'll likely see me in voice chat. If you aren't aware, Elaztek is a game development studio that I've (kind of) started up. Our current project is the Blamite Game Engine. Rather than using an off-the-shelf engine like Unreal or Unity, we want to build our own engine from the ground up. From the community side, we admittedly don't have a whole lot as of yet. Even so, we do have a forums and Discord. Now that being said, I'm also gonna try and stay active in CU in terms of the community. While I do believe I need a break, I also don't believe that secluding myself from my friends is going to make anything any better. In fact I'm fairly sure it'd do nothing but make everything that much harder. So in addition to Elaztek, you'll likely continue to see me in the CU discord, talking in text channels and in voice. However - please do not ask me to get on the server, or drag me into situations, or inform me about bugs or anything like that. The only reason I'd be sticking around is to talk to my friends. I want nothing to do with any server stuff and will not be involved save for very extreme situations where I absolutely must be there. If I can't get away from server management stuff in the CU Discord, then my fallback will be to either mute the server and live solely in Elaztek, or if that fails - I'll transfer server ownership to my alternate account and then leave the server until I feel ready to come back. If you wanna sign up on the Elaztek forums, you can do so at https://elaztek.com If you're interested in joining the Elaztek Discord, you can join at https://discord.gg/DYMFVWZ I'm sorry that I have to do this. I hate that it's gotten to this point. I hate that a friendship has been strained so heavily to lead to this. My hope is that when I make my return, I'll be ready and eager to get back to it. I hope to return and start working on getting bugs fixed, new gamemodes added, and making the MC server the best it can be. But that won't happen with me being in this mental state. I don't know how long it'll take me to reach that point. Maybe it'll just be a few days and I'll be ready, or maybe it'll take a month or two. Maybe it'll be somewhere in between. I don't know how much time I need because I've never felt so fucked up like this before. I've never been in a position where I felt that it was necessary to cut a friend off. For my whole life, friendships have only ever become distant - never strained like this. It's a new pain - and it's miserable. And considering just how much of Wind is still within CU, I don't see myself being able to recover as long as I'm still here trying to work on it. Once again, I'm sorry for doing this. I'm sorry that this topic is kind of all over the place and disorganized - I'm just not in a great headspace at the moment. I hope to come back sooner rather than later. Until then, you can find me on the Elaztek or CU Discord servers. Have a good day, yall. Try not to miss me too much.

Server: Discord Username: reeeeeeeeeeeeeeee#0001 Banned By: Wolfbitez Reason: Ear rape, talking spanish Have you been banned before?: More than 3 times Why should you be unbanned?: I have learned my lesson, after all this 3 years it has been without talking to Halo, and other staff including members. I can agree I was 11 and I was acting in-mature and selfish; after all I have grow up and I have learn so many things throughout the year’s not communicating with Chiotic United. Is there anything else you want to say?: I miss y’all What would you do if you were unbanned?: Act mature and don’t act stupid and childish

  15. Howdy folks! Some stuff has been happening the past few days and I think it's high time we let you guys in on some of it. As you probably know, Minecraft 1.14 released just a few days ago. Our test server has, as of today, been updated to 1.14 - granted there's still a ways to go. A lot of stuff is broken, but not as much as was broken with 1.13. Survival is mostly playable, however most other gamemodes aren't functional just yet. This will obviously change as time goes on and things get updated, Spigot and our plugins alike. This is still a fairly decent outcome considering that we are only a few after 1.14's release and we're already somewhat up and running on it. But of course, something else is significant about today. Today is April 26th, CU's birthday. Today marks 8 years since Chaotic United first opened its doors to the world. That's quite a long time, and a lot has changed in the world since 2011. Many of us here were children back then. Many of the people who were around back then have moved on from Minecraft, and many of those did so years ago. For a lot of people, it's sad to look at the current state of the community in comparison to back then. Part of our apparent lack of progress is my fault. For the past couple years I've neglected to run my staff team properly, and over the past couple of years the importance of staff expectations have degraded. The importance of being active decreased, I failed to give people things to do, and people were still growing up and moving into a new phase of their lives. Many of the people who had nothing but time back then nowadays are busy with college, work, or life in general. I've told this to my staff team just the other day, and I'm going to tell you - I want this 8th anniversary to be a turning point. A turning point for me, for this team, and for this community. The torch I've picked up and continue to carry has been neglected - and for that, I am terribly sorry. But sorry isn't enough - the only thing that's enough is correcting the mistakes of the past and building a better future. To deliver on the promises and goals I had back in 2014. And while those goals may be high - too high to be realistic, as some say - I believe in aiming high. A pattern has been consistent for each and every one of these special dates - a promise of "things will get better soon, guys", time and time again like a broken record. My goal is for this one to be the last one. I want our 9th birthday to be a celebration, not a message of hope for the future. I can say things will get good soon, but sooner or later people are going to stop having hope. We've been declining, not growing. I want our next birthday announcement to be reminiscent of the one that was posted after it's first year of life: On 4/21/2012 at 1:47 PM, Spencer said: Chaotic United is now a year old, give or take a couple days. It was once a much smaller community known as "Fatality Minecraft" that only consisted of a Minecraft server, run off of killerteddy's computer. This year has been amazing, we've expanded rapidly and became a successful and known gaming community. Our presence has spawned many other small gaming communities, some chose to try to develop alongside of us and others tried to attack our member base and steal the ideas that our community was founded upon. None of our achievements and goals would have ever been met without you guys, the community. So we owe it all to you. Many original members of Chaotic knew that we were always branded by our blue colour schemed styles so I've decided to revamp our current theme to blue and white as opposed to the green and white. You'll also find various of improvements and new features that were added in the past week. Also, in addition to all this we've reached 100,000 total posts! That's a huge milestone for us, and in less then a week or so we'll hit 25,000 total members. Out of all the projects I've lead or contributed to none has been ever so successful as Chaotic, and I'm proud of what we've all built Chaotic United to be. So once again, thanks everyone for making Chaotic's first year an amazing and the development team is working diligently to produce new and truly custom and immersive content. And also a special thanks to all of our donators and supporterss, without you we wouldn't be able to fund the server costs and development costs. And we're still very proud to say that not even a cent of donation money has ever been spent for our personal benefits. I want next year's post to look more like this, instead of preaching hope of future prospects for the 3rd or 4th year in a row. You'll start seeing the effects of some of these changes as we update to 1.14, and as we move into the rest of the year. Now to clarify something before we wrap up: When I talk about a turning point, I do NOT refer to any shift away from Minecraft. We may start to explore having one or two other servers, but we're gonna be sticking to Minecraft as our main server for many years to come. I firmly believe that the issue is not entirely due to the server itself (though there are definitely some things that need to change on that front), but moreso to do with how we as a team actually function - along with a lack of any sort of marketing/advertisement. Keep your eyes peeled on forums and Discord - things are gonna start happening very soon that will mark a turnaround in this community.

Sorry to see you go, man. I hate to see you leave outright as I've had some good times with you as well. But I suppose as history has shown, nobody sticks around forever sadly. If you ever decide to return, you can be sure I'll still be around here in some capacity, doing something to help this community move forward. In either case, I'm glad you're starting to get your stuff sorted out, and I'm honored to have been a part of helping you through the trouble and issues you had. It's this kind of stuff that makes running CU worth it - even if it's not as popular as it once was, me being here and keeping CU going is still making a lasting impact on the lives of people. I wish you good luck in your endeavors, and I hope I'll see you again one of these days.

  19. Halo is right on the part of the hosting. I have a server setup for hosting and it is soooo heavy on network usage and electric. My monthly bill in the summer is $300+ and $150+ in the winter. An easy thing to host would end up being websites and thats also tricky as there are so many other web hosts to compete with that you end up having to cut your prices down a lot to even get people interested in your company. Halo does a great job with CU and Michael does a great job as well. I have been following CU for a while now and have seen the progress they have made and they don't stop for anything.

  20. Hey folks! A quick update to the forums - one that's been a long time coming. We have a new default forums theme. Our previous theme was from 2016, and has been the default theme ever since we came back to these forums from the ND merge. The new theme is a modernized version of that theme along meant to look more consistent with the main CU website. It also includes a couple fixes and tweaks from the default theme on the Elaztek Studios website as it's theme is also based on the old 2016 theme. Along with that, we have a dark theme right off the bat to go along with it. You can find both of these in the Themes menu at the bottom of the page. Along with that, the old 2016 theme is still available in our selection as well. Along with that, we've introduced a new server status page where you can check the status of our gameservers and other services. You'll also see some new stuff in the navigation menu, including Search, Staff, and Support in the appropriate spots. Lastly, I want to apologise for yet another year of minimal progress in the CU front. I know I must sound like a broken record at this point, where every single year I proclaim that we're about to start a grand new path and that this year will be the year that CU finally makes its epic return. And every year ends up mostly the same. One or several things happen that get in the way. 2014 was starting up, 2015 was merging with ND, 2016 was unmerging with ND, 2017 was WF - most of you who've been around a while know most of this. So what happened this year? Well, this year most of the setbacks had less to do with CU itself but rather my own personal life - which is a lot better if you ask me. This year was easily much better than last year, though that's not exactly a difficult thing to do. Earlier this year, I graduated high school and since then I've been slowly attempting to transition into adult life. Things such as driving (because I didn't do that back when I was 16 as I had no desire or use for driving), getting a job, and so on. The driving stuff is still underway, but I've already obtained and left my first job at Walmart. As most of you know, I wasn't exactly active - on anything - during those work days. And despite it being a part time job, I suddenly had a fraction of the time I had before just out of the blue. At that point, any time I had I was dedicating to Elaztek - because I was driven by something that is very alien as a driving force for me - money. Now hold on, don't panic. I'm not going evil corporate on you. I mean money as in the sense of "let me do something that makes me money so I can quit this job and just do what I enjoy doing". I had ideas ranging from loans, to crowdfunding, and so on. Most of you already know how that Kickstarter went (if you don't, it went pretty horribly). This didn't last very long, though, as I quickly grew unhappy with driving everything around money (kind of). I had (and still have) a passion project of mine, that will likely take years to complete. Since that point I'd spent most of my time working on that project. But then something happened that made it where I couldn't. For those of you on Discord, you'll know that I managed to completely rip my Windows 7 installation to pieces (and later put it back together again with duct tape and popsicle sticks), and for several days I didn't have much that I could do on my PC. So, instead of sitting around watching progress bars, I fired up Minecraft. And I felt at home. I felt a powerful flame reignite deep within that had been hidden from view by the chaos of entering/leaving a job, trying to find a game plan for Elaztek, and everything else that was going on at the time. I felt happy, but I also felt a sense of regret - regret that I'd effectively ignored CU for several months. Even though I tell myself it's not entirely my fault, it's still something that hurts and I want to try and turn it around. However, I do still have bills to pay as well. I can't share the details yet, because to be honest, I have yet to even discuss this with the team in detail yet. I want to share it with all of you at the same time. I know that some of you will probably scoff at the idea, but I want to try and push CU into something that is able to actually generate revenue. The amount of money that goes into CU every year is absolutely absurd considering how relatively small it is. It's awesome, and I love it, but there is very little money that comes in. So, with that being said, I'm gonna start spitballing some ideas. Understand that none of these are by any means official plans, because as I said, I haven't even talked to anyone else on the team about this before right now. A couple of ideas I had was selling some of my own skills, such as Graphic Design and Web Design services, templates, and so on through the CU store. To have CU be a sort of web e-commerce platform for web/tech-related stuff, maybe. For many years, monetization has been all but ignored on most of our services. Yeah, there's donation ranks on MC, but those are largely remnants of old CU and ND and very few people buy them to begin with. Beyond that, I've focused more on trying to just build up a server, a website, and a community. The issue is, you need two things to do this: money and time. For most of my time doing this, I've had a hell of a lot of time, but not a lot of money. When I had a job, I was slowly getting funds built up, but once I lost that job that fell apart pretty quickly for obvious reasons. Going forward, I want to introduce more ways of monetization. But I want to do it with you guys. I don't want to (and won't) introduce monetization systems that you guys aren't at least somewhat interested in. Additionally, a lot of my ideas are community-centered. For example, web and graphic design services. Services that YOU - yes, YOU - a member of the CU community, could sell through CU. You would benefit by being able to sell things, and CU would benefit by getting a tiny portion of the funds. Things of that nature. Things where both of us win in the end. It doesn't even have to be graphic design or web or anything like that. If you've got a skill you want to offer to the community (and beyond), let me know! I've been itching to try new things with Chaotic United for a long time, both inside and outside of the gaming world - but I want to make sure you guys are okay with it. I started CU back up as a service to the community, and I refuse to do anything that goes against that. If you guys hate the idea of me trying to utilize CU and its assets to try and generate revenue, then I won't. I'll find another outlet to try these experiments. Back in 2014/2015 when things were just starting back up, there was a common misconception that Aly and I started CU back up with the end goal of just trying to make a quick buck. Back then, I didn't understand the logic. I still don't. But I also don't want this post to seem like a confirmation of some kind of ridiculous nonsense, "oh!!! halo finally admiTS it! he just wants the moNEy!!!!!!11!". That's why I made a nice and simple poll. You tell me what you think of this. I'd love to hear any and all comments and responses to anything I've said, be it positive or negative. I also ask that anyone who sees this votes either on this poll or on the equivalent poll on the Discord announcement to go along with this topic (or both if you want). If you guys don't like it, then I'll continue to steer clear of monetization the way I have been thus far. But, that's not the end of this topic. The title of this topic ends with "and a Thank You" for a reason. As much as I may feel down at times, or unhappy with what seems to be a lack of progress, the new Chaotic United isn't a failure. This year not only has been virtually drama-free, but our player counts have been regularly held up ever since we brought the folks from The Den under our wing. I want to start by just giving a huge thank you to @DownTown and @lipinskip123 for being some of, if not the most active staff on our MC server this year. Not only that, but in doing so, you two have helped to boost the overall player counts. We were getting relatively higher numbers the other day, and I want to thank you both for helping make that happen - and hopefully continue to happen. But along with that, I want to thank all of you. Every single person who has ever set foot into Chaotic United's doors. Whether you joined and played for five minutes in 2011, whether you've been here through every iteration of Chaotic United over it's 7+ year lifespan. From the original Chaotic United run by Killerteddy from 2011 to 2013, to Nuclear District from 2014 to 2016, to the current CU from 2014 and onward. I want to thank everyone who's ever registered on this forum, who's ever joined our Discord, or our Minecraft server - even for just a moment - for being part of this journey. I want to thank each and every one of you for taking the time to stop by and say hello. Most of all, I want to thank those of you who have been dedicated. Those of you who've been around for years and years. Those of you who've stuck around through CU's worst and it's best. You guys are the reason that I started this project, and you give me the drive to keep going. Every time I feel a little down or a little unhappy with CU's progress, I look at you. I think of the people who have been here by my side since the very beginning. You are the reason I started, and you're the reason I'm still here doing this. Before I close off this topic, I want to make a promise to all of you. I promise you that one day, whether it be within the next year, or the next five years, or even ten years, that I will bring Chaotic United back to it's status - and beyond. I can't promise it will be on Minecraft, I can't promise that it won't be a bumpy ride there, but I promise that I will get us there or die trying. Along with that, I want to reaffirm that despite how busy I may get, despite what other stuff I might be doing with my life in the future, that I won't do what so many others have done and just pull out and leave it abandoned. Chaotic United is, has been, and always will be something near and dear to my heart. It ignited a flame within me back in January of 2012, and that flame still burns as bright as it did on day one. I just... I love you guys. Thank you.

  22. This is from the ingame rules, note how it says "You will be banned immediately.". Advertising has been and always will be a rule where you get permanently banned upon doing so. I will wait for other staff to overview this and drop some feedback before I make a decision, but you do need to keep these rules in mind. Ignorance to the rules is not an excuse. I would also appreciate an actual appeal instead of just "i dont know why i was banned, it should have been a temp ban".

    Do I get seconds?

It's always great to see some old CU folks coming back around! Sadly I can't say I recognize your name (but then again I barely remember anyone's names from back then DX), but in either case welcome back! Our community is most active on Discord - even when literally everything else is completely dead silent. You can get in by this link: https://discord.gg/h282hYn. I also do apologize for the late reply, I've been busy doing development work and other things - and it's not every day someone actually takes time to register . Anyways, we hope you have a great time on Chaotic United!

  25. So we have been getting new players coming in, from what I've seen over the past 2-3 days is that lots of the new players that join leave very shortly after. I was thinking that along with advertising to get new players in, we make an effort to start getting more to do on the server. Survival, Skyblock, Factions, and Creative are the main gamemodes on the server and practically ever single god damn server has that, we should try and give these gamemodes a hint of uniqeness and introduce new gamemodes. In the idea of making things unique we should start with factions because that's a popular gamemode on other servers, and add something like special perks or classes; I've seen servers where the players select special classes which then gives passive buffs and active abilities for pvp/pve and gathering rescources; sort of like mcmmo but with some sort of CU specific spin to it ex. Haloman class provides the passive ability of hunger 1 (cause he won't become an android so he starves) and has the "Anger" ability which when around dogs/wolves the player gets strength 1 (shouting at soggy is optional on the players behalf). Next up, minigames. Minigames are a great way to get new players to keep playing because there are a multitude of different games to choose from. We should start with some generic, easy to do games like spleef and tnt run, but not just a flat platform, I mean some small top platforms which open to larger platforms, basically just interesting maps for those. Then proceed to expand on top of those existing gamemodes, and maybe invent some ourselves. An in-game currency specific to minigames can be implemented aswell for boosts or cosmetic items which makes players want to continue to play, and opens up a good donation revenue. These are just some ideas on how to keep new players coming in, and have them stay. Of course we're already working on things like this but it's always a good idea to have a few suggestions for new stuff.

  26. The time has come for Modded MC to return to Chaotic United! Once again, we are utilizing the Brink of Chaos Modpack - but this time around, we have included various mods suggested by YOU - the CU Community! The Modded MC Subforum has been added (and contains topics from FTB Trident, Horizons, and old BOC) and has a couple new topics added - an up-to-date list of all the mods installed, and a topic to help those unfamiliar with the Technic Launcher to get up and running. In terms of resources, you are going to need at least 4GB of RAM on your PC and a decent CPU. RAM is the biggest thing you need. If you know how Technic works, just set your memory to 4GB (or 3.5GB if you only have 4GB in your PC, or more if you have it). If you aren't entirely sure how to do this, check out this handy topic. For a full list of mods, check this other topic. As you can also see, we have a new and improved logo design for the Modpack as well! It is made to better fit what the pack overall has - technology, creativity, and weaponry. Our server actually HAS a spawn now, which is a considerable step up from the server that we tried to do before which really never had one. This modpack has been in the works since earlier this year, you may even recall BlarFlargen mention hosting it in the past. Now, the server is hosted by AwakenedRage/Kryptoaware, who while is not present on the CU Discord, still is involved in CU from the management side of things. Our server is live at mod.chaoticunited.net - but this is technically unimportant, because the Modpack ships with the server already on your server list! We hope you guys enjoy the new and improved Modded MC experience, and stay tuned as we have another server set to launch soon as well. A server really designed for a small niche audience, but something we want to bring to CU nonetheless. So, go on! Have fun!

  34. As Users have been noticing the significant decrease in server performance and technicians have been struggling to patch an openssl and openssh exploits. We have decided that CentOS 7 has become unreliable for our current server environment and are abandoning it today at 5:30PM CST in favor of Mageia 4.1. This will significantly decrease the complexity of configuring the servers and will be up to date and will improve performance. The Server should be up before 7, but I'll say 7:30PM just to be safe. This is in attempt to improve performance and decrease downtime.

  35. Hey everybody, I'm PurpleFreeze. I am going to be overseeing the server operations for the next couple of weeks (I'm actually at Michael's House) and also assign moderator permissions to Trustable Demoria Staff along with Collin. This is due to Michael's leave and I will stick to all of Halo's rules. So don't think you can trick me, with saying your more familiar with the guidelines. The Temporary VPS will be remain in service until Michael comes back. This is due to the fact the DBServer is hosted on his personal server that connects all the computers in his house and he did not leave me the password for it (Even then, I'm more of a Mongo DB type of person Stay Safe, PurpleFreeze

  36. Hey, everyone! We're pleased to announce that we've updated our Minecraft server to 1.21 - and with it, we've introduced a number of changes and improvements. If you'd like to find out firsthand what's new, spoiler free - feel free to just hop on to the server. However, if you're interested in the deep-dive, keep on reading. A couple quick things to mention before we dive in, however - currently, The End in Survival is inaccessible, and SkyBlock is also unfortunately unavailable at this time. Both of these will be restored in the near future, once the plugins required for custom ore generation and SkyBlock functionality are updated and compatible with 1.21.1. Vote Rewards One change we're personally excited about is the introduction of Tokens - formally known as CUPoints. For those newer, CUPoints became a sort of running gag - the idea was to implement them as a minigame reward, many, many years ago. That idea was an evolution of NDPoints, a secondary current on Nuclear District's MC server back in 2014 - and that leads directly into the present day. Tokens are the new name for an old idea - a global currency. As of now, Tokens can be earned via a few methods: Voting (1 token per vote) Playtime (1 token per hour of playtime, with a limit of 5 per day) Parkour (varying token amounts based on course and difficulty level) This does mean that you won't get double rewards on Survival and Skyblock anymore, however - to help make up for that, we've expanded what you can get with those Tokens. Instead of just having a single Vote Crate that you can earn winnings from, we've introduced a number of additional crates, that each have different, more specific rewards. Currently, the available crates include: Resource Crate (2 Tokens) - A crate which offers a variety of resources - including logs, ingots, and other minerals. Builder's Crate (2 Tokens) - A crate which offers a selection of common building materials - including stone bricks, grass blocks, sandstone, along with several other building blocks. Mythic Crate (200 Tokens) - A crate which offers a few rare items - including a Nether Star, Elytra, and spawn eggs for Skeleton and Zombie Horses Animal Crate (10 Tokens) - A crate which offers spawn eggs for many passive/neutral animals. Monster Crate (20 Tokens) - A crate which offers spawn eggs for many hostile mobs. Pets Crate (20 Tokens) - A crate which offers spawn eggs for several common pets - including wolves, cats, axolotls, parrots, and others. Additionally, the classic Vote Crate remains - exactly as it was, and you can purchase a Vote Crate Key for 1 token - the same cost as before, essentially. In the future, we want to have additional means to earn these Tokens - such as via other minigames, for instance. Additionally, these Tokens will never reset - so, if you like, you can bank them - even for years if you like. You can also pay tokens to other players if you'd like to use it as a standard currency. And, as such, you can also see who has the most tokens by doing /tokens top in-game. World Resets Yeah, yeah - we know, these often aren't exactly fun or exciting - but from time to time, they become necessary. The last time we did a world reset was MC 1.18 - and with several updates releasing since then, there was a great deal of newer Minecraft content that was either extremely difficult, or even impossible to find. The Deep Dark, suspicious gravel and sand, Mangrove and Cherry forests - all things that have been in the game for a bit now, and things that will hopefully be easier to locate and experience now. Survival and Vanilla have both had their worlds reset. As per usual, we're working on packaging up the previous worlds and getting them ready for download - so in the near future, you'll be able to keep a copy of these worlds forever. You may have noticed, however, that Semi-Vanilla was not on that list - which leads us right into another major change. Removal of Semi-Vanilla For those active in our Discord voice chats, this won't be a big shocker - but for the rest of you, this might come as a surprise. We've made the decision to remove Semi-Vanilla from the server outright with the update to 1.21. This is fairly unusual for us - as the last time we've removed a major gamemode from the server was probably the first time we dropped Semi-Vanilla, when we updated to MC 1.13. This time around, our reasoning isn't wholly different - however, we've gone about it in a different way from before. When we removed it back with 1.13, the basic reason was that Survival would sort of morph into a half-step between what it was in 1.12, and what Semi-Vanilla was (you can read more on that here). We removed mcMMO and Jobs, economy became isolated to Survival (as previously, minigames and other things would reward Survival money), and tried our best to streamline the Survival experience and keep it a bit more traditional - while still keeping the bulk of the perks intact for all of the various ranks. Over time, however, many of those features found their way back in - along with some new ones. Jobs came back for a bit, though didn't stick around beyond 1.15 due to balance issues. More recently, mcMMO was quietly reintroduced with 1.20. On top of that, we've gradually worked on expanding the library of custom content (though this is still in its relatively early stages in terms of the amount of content). As this direction began, we ended up bringing Semi-Vanilla back as a more permanent offering during 1.16's lifespan (which you can also read about here) - as Survival had already deviated far enough from the typical purist offering to warrant its return. This was, however, until we introduced Vanilla. Vanilla started off from a few members just playing Survival on an internal testing server - which annoyed me, as of course I'd rather people play on the actual mainline MC server. This ended up resulting in me adding Vanilla - which ended up becoming relatively popular, enough to where I decided it would stick around as a permanent offering. At this point, we had three "tiers" of Survival - Vanilla, Semi-Vanilla, and Survival - with each one being a step up from the previous in terms of features and functionality. What ended up happening was that most people preferred the extremes - with Semi-Vanilla being in this sweet spot where almost nobody touched it. Those who wanted a more feature-rich experience stuck to Survival, whereas purists enjoyed the raw, unadulterated experience of Vanilla. Given all of this information - and the fact that the dedicated server is running a bit close to the wire - we made the decision to bid farewell to Semi-Vanilla. I won't say it's gone forever - this will largely depend on future demand - but at this time, we feel that what it offered is better found in either Survival or Vanilla. In all honesty, this is something that's been a long time coming - you might have noticed that Semi-Vanilla has basically been left untouched for a while, not even getting a new spawn with the last reset. A key reason for this was one major problem that Survival still had, that we felt was important to iron out... Solving the "Pay-to-Win" Problem Now - I don't consider Chaotic United to be pay-to-win, and from what I can tell, a majority of our players don't see it that way either. However, some have called it that - and while I rejected this notion outright for a long time, I have come around somewhat to see the other side of this issue. While Survival doesn't really have a "win" condition per se - there are undeniable benefits that are experienced when purchasing or earning one of the various ranks. And in a sense, this isn't exactly a new problem - it's one we've been working to try and address for years, going all the way back to the original Semi-Vanilla experiment during MC 1.12. We've tried to offer an alternative that strips these perks out entirely - but this splits the playerbase between two gamemodes and doesn't truly fix anything. More recently, with 1.18, we experimented with nerfing and dialing back several of the perks - but this was generally deemed unpopular as well. And still, that didn't solve anything either. All of these partial solutions have been flawed - and it seemed as though the only true solution that would last would be to just gut the perks outright. But this, too, isn't good either - as it'd be a complete slap in the face to people who paid or played for these perks, and enjoy using them. Clearly, something has to be done. Back in the day, a common complaint was that players would get to a certain rank, and then just become bored - as there was no real challenge or difficulty in playing the game anymore. That's what we tried to address with the nerfs, but it wasn't enough - and going any further would be an insult to people with those perks. At the same time, it became apparent over time that being able to zoom around with fly mode and use veinminer on a mass amount of ores, and in doing so, rack up a ton of money and XP (which can then be sold for money) is, in a very real sense, pay-to-win. As such, we've come up with what we believe will be the solution to truly, actually, for-real, solve this problem - and do so in the most fair way possible to everyone involved: the Perks Toggle. The core idea is dead simple - anyone Donator or above can enable or disable their perks at-will by using /toggleperks. This will allow people with perks to enjoy them freely as they always have, without any nerfs or limitations - and when they want to play legitimately, they can simply disable their perks. The perks toggle separates most player data between these two modes, including: Inventory Health/Hunger Active Potion Effects XP Ender Chest Homes Current and /back Locations Bed Location Gamemode (Survival, Creative, Spectator, etc) Everything listed above is tracked independently - meaning that you essentially have two sets of each of the above items: one for when you're playing legit, and one for when you're playing with perks enabled. Additionally, we've tightened up what's considered "not legitimate" - previously, only items that were specifically spawned in with /item were counted as illegitimate - with any other item being counted as legit. Now, any item held by any player with perks enabled will be considered illegitimate. We have built in a command for our Moderators to "legitimize" a non-legitimate item for cases where it might be needed (ie, your hard-earned sword that you got just the right enchants on got picked up by someone with their perks on) - so if such as situation arises, don't panic! Just fetch a Moderator and they'll get you fixed up. Additionally, when perks are enabled, some economy and similar features are disabled, including: Earning money from mobs or ores Selling XP for money However, it's not all bad news - as a result of the toggle, we've also rolled back the majority of the nerfs we introduced with 1.18. As such: All Tools and Armor (excluding custom ones, ie - Durite) can be spawned with /item once again /god and /mobgod no longer have any time limits Player Vaults have been reintroduced - with their contents only being accessible with perks enabled VIP will once again have death chests placed upon death, when players have perks enabled We recognize that some of the restrictions may be seen as heavy-handed, but we feel that this is the only real way to prevent the server from being pay-to-win, while also still keeping the perks that people paid or played for intact. Survival Changes One thing we've wanted to do - and plan to continue doing - is expanding what content is available in Survival. This of course can come in the form of custom blocks, items, and so on - but it can also come in the form of custom structures. As such - we've introduced several new structures that can generate in Survival, in both the Overworld and The End. Durite Temples These are small pyramid-like structures that can be found in The End - and inside, will contain both traps - and treasure. Grab an Elytra and fly around - see if you can find them! Ancient Shrines These are small underground structures which contain a bit of helpful loot - as well as some new items that, in the future, will be key components of the successor to our old MagicStuff plugin. Abandoned Crypts These are old, abandoned crypts which can spawn underground - and among a variety of loot, will also often contain keys to unlock the Teddy boss room. That's right - you'll actually be required to dig up these old keys if you want to take on Teddy. The sign that used to be located at the gate entrance is no more. This also technically means that only now is the Teddy boss fight able to be considered truly "complete" - several years after his introduction. But hey - better late than never, right? Bug Reporting and Registration For a while, we've also been wanting to make it easier to register for Member. While the current process is a bit of an inconvenience - and still needs some work - we have managed to introduce a new feature that'll help improve it: automatic registration approval. Previously, registrations had to be manually validated by a Moderator or above. And, while Member hasn't been a requirement to actually play for a while, it's still annoying and inconvenient - for both our players and our staff team. As such, registration approval and in-game promotion is now handled entirely automatically by our old friend, @FORUMBOT (the very same one who was elected President of the Earth and Galaxy, if you recall). In addition to registration, bug reports are another somewhat sore spot. While the process isn't particularly difficult, having to leave the server and pull up a website is still another barrier - a barrier that many are likely to just not bother with. In order to remedy this, we've introduced the /bugreport command - which lets you submit a bug report directly from the server. It'll guide you through the process of reporting a bug, and can automatically collect some basic information from the server as well - such as your position, world, and so on. Once finished, it'll be posted on our bug tracker by FORUMBOT - allowing us (and anyone else interested, including you) to see it and keep track of it. We aim to increase integration between our website and MC server as time goes on - we've got a number of ideas, but we're gonna keep those to ourselves for the time being Website Changes Along with the changes on our MC server, we've also made some updates to our website - in the form of a new default theme: Chaotic United - 2024! While this theme is still primarily a derivative of our previous theme that we've been interating on for years now - it's probably one of the more significant updates in a while. One thing we've realized is that, at least in some situations, our forums are a bit... cluttered. Not the forums themselves per se, but there are certain situations (such as viewing forum threads) where there's a lot more information shown than is really necessary. As such, we've gone through and stripped out a bunch of this clutter, in an effort to make things a bit more easy to digest. If you're not a fan of this particular change, we've gone ahead and built in an option to restore the old UI elements - simply check the Customize Theme menu (the paintbrush icon next to the search box) and check "Extra UI Elements". Along with that, our News & Announcements subforum has been given the Elaztek treatment in the form of an updated UI all its own - each topic is now displayed with its image, in a more elegant format, similar to the Elaztek Studios news section. Additionally, News topics now display with a larger font size and with a much more simplified page design - where replies are displayed more akin to comments. We recognize that this may be a bit of a departure, and that not everyone may like these changes. While we do of course value feedback and encourage you to share it - we also currently, and will continue to offer all past forum themes as an option if you desire. If you'd like to go back to the previous site design, simply click the Theme button, and choose Chaotic United > Chaotic United - 2022. Wrapping Up And with that - that pretty much covers all the major changes made to the website and MC server. We hope you enjoy the changes and improvements! As per usual - if you find any bugs, be sure to report them on our bug tracker, or by using /bugreport ingame.

  37. Profanity isn't bannable, that's already been set. There's been some developments in the time since the post - Mojang has (somewhat) clarified that their intent is more for severe offenses (actual harassment, real threats, etc). Of course - what they say and what they do are two separate things. However the good news is that it does look as though there will be an opt-out, as only "signed" messages can be reported. Basically if a message is signed it has a digital signature with it that confirms that "yes, this message 100% came from this user". Unsigned messages cannot be reported since there's no way to verify. And as of right now, PaperMC 1.19 builds allow for message signing to be disabled (and in fact it's setup like this by default), which effectively means all messages within that server are not reportable. As long as this doesn't magically change between now and release, it won't matter a great deal what they consider enforceable - as it won't have any effect in CU (and likely many other servers too if I had to guess). So I suppose the tl;dr is that as of now, it's looking like it won't be a very big deal at all ultimately - servers that don't want to use it likely won't have to, and the pg-13 servers that do can have fun with it I guess

  38. i would really like to see factions on CU just so i can create a profitable empire! and raid peoples other factions! i would also like to see the factions server get its own pseudo world history.

not 100% sure how many people would remember me but I think I became part of this server and staffed back in 2012 or 2013 times. my minecraft is Sarzaxx if anyone's still here from that long ago anyway I'm so glad this servers still up and running after shit hit the fan, hopefully we get back that great community we had previously!! I'm waiting for a new computer for Christmas so I'm hoping to be on regularly after that!

    My Departure

Don't really wanted to do this topic, but i'll just leave it here for those interested. As a CU old fag/ex Staff i decided it's time to go, move on. Chance of seeing me back here is nihil to zero. I'll still be gaming regularly, but i'll mainly be tracable at Belgian Racing events (especially trackdays on the circuits) cause of my high interest in cars. I wish the very best for ND/CU (NB: Very rare for a staff member to just 'step down', without breaking something or being hated by the entire community.) Have a good one, Mr. Kendev

    Plugin suggestions

I believe these plugins should be added to the server. Clockwork planter: http://www.curse.com/bukkit-plugins/minecraft/clockwork-planter This can be used to help automate farms. SilkSpawners: http://www.curse.com/bukkit-plugins/minecraft/silkspawners This can be used for members to be able to do more with spawners if they can find them. TreeAssist http://www.curse.com/bukkit-plugins/minecraft/tree-assist This can be used to keep trees around automatically on the server, and help declutter areas where trees were planted. If I have more ideas, I will post them. Thank you.
