  1. We already know how the crash of the server occured and whoever iniated the mass amount of bots to flood the site with spam.was IP Spoofing all except a couple IP's. 

     

    To farther clarify, we do know that Nuclear District DID NOT cause the crash due to the fact they would not be able to pull off such an advanced attack involving over 9,000 IP addresses.

     

    Our gameservers have also been receiving packets for the past couple of days. But all the malicious traffic has been absorbed with no leaking traffic.

     

    This is honestly isn't surprising to us due to recent events in other communityies and the fact it isn't easy to make the people behind the DDoS attacks give up. These attacks have become extremely less common for Chaotic United after April, and didn't start back up until in June. Obviously evidenced by the picture below, whoever is doing this a complete novice for not changing up their types of attacks.

     

    Don't bother trying to take credit for the attack because we know that the attacker behind the crashing of the webserver is completely different then  the one for the gameserver

    Whoever is doing this, I am well aware that they go on our forum quite a bit and I just want to say kudo's to you, because you arent accomplishing anything by attacking us. We also have a surprise for the community very soon.

It has been 7 months since Demoria Custom Engine was last acknowledged, however we have kept a key fact about the game from the world that we feel needs to be known.  As Demoria has been undergoing more development we eventually abandoned our own Custom In House Network Interactive Engine in pursuit of a better designed engine that could essentially have its own dedicated team separate from Ruletech Games.  The version of the game using the In Home Engine was only given to a handful of people and we acknowledge that it is no longer relevant to the game. We thank our DCE Developers for putting all there effort and knowledge of C++ truly to the test and showing the community what we are capable of. There work will not go unnoticed and will be integrated into another application used in Demoria’s backend that is crucial to the users experience.

     

    However, convenience wasn’t the only factor that made us go for the push to change the Network Interaction in game, a lot of this had to do with Computer Science standards in the US leaning more towards Java when it comes to programming.  (Which I cannot stand coding in Java)  Another reason is that the town where Ruletech Games originates, Munster, Indiana only offers Java, C++ and Visual Basic courses. This made it very hard to find programmers that knew C fluently and could easily learn new libraries and such without having to go too basic.  

    We originally said that Atavism (The Replacement for DCE) was the original codename for Demoria Custom Engine. We would like to say that we had gotten careless about a typo and decided to leave it as Atavism to the public due to us being occupied on other things when it actually was Otaism (Online Transaction Artificial Intelligence Server Mechanism). We had no idea that Atavism actually was actually an existing thing.

     

    We acknowledge the work Neojac Entertainment has put into Atavism after we begun implementing a good portion of DCE’s code into a an Addon for Atavism that allows Players to be able to go to multiple different servers and will soon add a unique aspect to Atavism that other games using the Engine will not have. For those who are familiar with Atavism it is not public except for the AGIS code to people with licenses. Once we made the change to Atavism a couple months ago the whole reason we didn’t publicly announce was in fear that we wouldn’t be taken seriously due to us not having 100% access to the source code. But now that has changed slightly, we have found a compatible way to send messages to the server that can not be accomplished normally with Atavism alone. We have decided to call this Demoria Custom Addon. This addon is closed source and removes all the limits Atavism imposes on its users regarding source code. No explaination to of how this was done will be given. However this does not violate Atavism EULA in any form.

     

     However I just want to make one thing clear, Demoria will not be able to be replicated as the game relies heavily on Databases that we only have access to.  So Decompiling it or trying to recreate it will not be possible.

    Atavism Unity API Improvements

    • The majority of Atavism provided classes and files have been renamed to have the word “Atavism” at the start. As a result, pretty much every file has been modified with updated references.
    • Improved the Cursor API to make it easier to get and set the item, ability or bag that the cursor is currently holding.
    • Added a new AtavismUIManager class that will be the central file for managing the UI of the game. For users upgrading an existing project, make sure the component is on your UI prefab.
    • Deleted the AtavismObjects/UI folder, moved files into AtavismObjects/Scripts/UI Components folder so all UI files are now in the same location.
    • Deleted the StandardAssets/AtavismCore/World.cs file. It was redundant.
    • Other:
      - Sound sets added to allow setting of different sounds on mobs to various events.
      - Script added to allow music to be played when entering areas (trigger collision volumes).
      - Tab targeting and first person targeting now added.
      - Added a target type check to the cursor to not show the attack cursor or send attack command for friendly targets.
      - Added a key code setter for walk on the Atavism 3rd Person Input allowing developers to easily set which key toggles walk and run.
      - Added classes and races buttons to default Character Create UI.
      - Merchant window (among others) now closes when the player moves too far away.
      - More than 1 level can be gained if the exp is high enough.
      - Changed the Dot Effects to no longer use the hitroll allowing more consistent damage from them.
      - Added the ability to get a players level of a skill for skill level checks in the AGIS code.
      - Looted currency now gets instantly converted to a currency.
      - The Instance Portal script has been improved allowing the specifying of which marker or exact x/y/z location you want the player to be teleported to.

      Fixes
      Minor:
      - Fixed an issue where a player may keep falling when they are dead.
      - Attaching particles to weapons is now possible using the new slot options in the AtavismAppearanceController - MainWeapon and SecondaryWeapon. Weapons must have a child node called socket for it to work.
      - Fixed the CoordProjectileEffect so it now correctly sets up the projectile for movement.
      - Fixed an issue where vitality stats were still being modified after logging out.
      - Fixed an issue where mobs kept facing the player after returning back from having run too far.
      - Fixed the issue where players were staying in combat state (and possibly trying to auto attack) after having killed a target (in particular another player).
      - Fixed an item adding issue that was causing onAcquire actions (such as currency) to run multiple times (such as getting 4x the currency).
      - Fixed an issue that was allowing the duplication of bag items.
      - Fixed an issue with the ActionBar key bindings that was causing the activate ability message twice (which resulted in a “You cannot perform this action yet” error message displayed to the player).
      - Fixed a calculation error that was causing heal over time effects to not heal the correct amount.
      - Fixed an issue where items of the same type to one that had been equipped cannot be moved around the bags.
      - Correct sell values should now be shown on the Merchant Sell window.
    • Walking can now be toggled using the key binding set on the Atavism 3rdPersonInput.
    • ResourceNode harvesting has been fixed to prevent users getting 0 or negative items. Players will only get skill gains when successfully harvesting from a node.
    • The tag owner property on a mob is now set when using any attacking ability, not just auto attack.
    • Fixed an issue where after clicking “Test Connection” in the Database plugin other plugins wouldn't load data correctly.
    • Handle cascade deleting for database rows that are referenced elsewhere (half done)
    • Items handed in for quest should not all be removed if the item is not a quest item.
    • Moving while casting is not interrupting the case.
    • Mobs hostile to other mobs will chase them even when they are not attackable.
    • Item abilities need to be able to target the players target as well.
    • Newly created mob templates are not always interacting properly with old characters that were made before the new mob templates (to be verified)
    • Allow choosing of existing dialogues when setting up a dialogue chain.
    • Fixed Possible account permission issue when sending down spawns for mob spawner tool for admins
    • Change loot particles to use CoordEffects rather than AtavismParticles.
    • Stopped persisting of mobs.

  3. Hi Everyone, I have an update.

     

    A majority of the staff are studying for finals this week. This includes all of our technicians that have physical access to the server. Due to my critical finals taking place tomorrow and the fact I will need to study really hard I will not be able to reassemble the server infrastructure until tomorrow night. Nor will any other technicians be able to.

     

    Just because I know a handfull of you won't study or do not have finals at this time. I've created the roleplaying catergory where you can roleplay various topics and such. This is just to give those handful of people things to tide them over until the server reopens. I know that this is nothing compared to the server, but I'm at least showing some effort and giving you guys something that doesn't require any management on my part. 

     

    Also ever heard of Steam? Use it if your bored

  4. Due to the main ceiling fan in the server room no longer working, we are replacing the fan tomorrow. During this procedure the power on the servers will have to be turned off while the new fan is put in. As a result of this the server will be going offline tonight at 10PM Central Time and will be back online at 6PM Central Time tomorrow. At 10PM our main server infrastructure will be dismantled with our set procedures to prevent any of our equipment getting damaged when the power is turned off. Ex: Data Loss, Corruption, Etc

     

    We apologize for any inconvenience this may bring, but with summer coming up we don't want the server room to become hot as a sauna because the fan doesn't work.

  5. To Run the SFC /SCANNOW Command in Windows 7
    1. Open an elevated command prompt.

    2. To Scan and Repair System Files
    NOTE: Scans the integrity of all protected system files and repairs the system files if needed.
    A) In the elevated command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. (see screenshot below)
    NOTE: This may take some time to finish.

    B) Go to step 4.

    3. To Only Verify if the System Files are Corrupted
    NOTE: Scans and only verifies the integrity of all proteced system files only.
    A) In the elevated command prompt, type sfc /verifyonly and press Enter.

    4. When the scan is complete, hopefully you will see all is ok like the screenshot below.
    NOTE: If not, then you can attempt to run a System Restore using a restore point dated before the bad file occured to fix it. You may need to repeat doing a System Restore until you find a older restore point that may work.

    5. When done, close the elevated command prompt.

     
     
    If all is good, then you are safe. At this time we advise you not to take files from players or staff members of Chaotic United until we can safely say our staff members are secure.

    It has been brought our attention of a potential compromise in Chaotic United Gameserver's and Database server. The cause of this is to be determined, but from what information we have right now we advise everyone running Windows who has received files from staff members since last October  to:

     

    Download: Malwarebytes

    Do a Full System Scan or Threat Scan

     

    Delete all threats that you do not recognize, After the threats are dealt with it should ask to restart the computer. and thats exactly what needs to be done.
     Restart the computer and once Windows is rebooted a text file should open. You can close as it isn't important at this time.

     

    Now you are going to want to download adwcleaner

    I am not sure whether ESET will ask you to restart, but after it does we are going to want to verify that  your system files were not damaged by using SFC

I will try later tonight to rollback the area before the griefing, I'm better with Logblock parameters typically but if I am still unable to roll it back, LB will be reconfigured to proper settings and I will locate whoever started the whole mess manually in the DB and sanction accounts associated

     

    I'll explain in more detail when I am not swamped with a huge amount of work.

    Since the meeting a couple new rules have been introduced into Chaotic United.

     

     

    1) Threatening to DCMA anybody on the community will not be tolerated and will result in a ban.

     

    2) Making posts on the forums or messages on the Minecraft server threatening to harm yourself purely to gain attention will not be tolerated on the forums and will result in a suspension.

     

    3) In extreme cases occurrences on other communities may carry over from here if the discussion is relevant to Chaotic United in some way

     

    All the issues have been resolved pertaining to last week and on a short note, I will be on the server less often.

  9. Hi all,

     

    The DBServer will be relocated to its original running location tomorrow (Sunday) at 1PM Central Time and all servers will be down for 1 hour while it is moved and everything is rewired. The gamserver has tons of wires for PS/2 Connections, USB and Ethernet connections. I want to organize it so it isn't an eyesore for someone that comes into the room and also make sure the DBServer uses a different source to get internet instead of the same ethernet switch that the gameserver uses. I was running network file transfers and it caused lag on the game server last night. I deeply apologize for this oversight and will take the necessary measures to fix it.

Unfortunately although this is a small group of people, they have affected a large percentage of our users, spreading false rumors, and posting inappropriate content on our services.     A security exploit has been identified in the openjdk 1.7.0 version. The server uses OpenJDK 1.8 and has already patched the exploit. However this is also present in Java SE clients. It is highly advised that you update your java.

    Nothing crucial. The openjdk project is mostly based on hotspot source code donated by Sun.

    Moreover, openjdk was selected to be the reference implementation for java 7, and is maintained by Oracle engineers.

    Technical differences are a consequence of the goal of each one (OpenJDK is meant to be the reference implementation, open to the community, while Oracle is meant to be a commercial one)

    They both have "almost" the same code of the classes in the Java API; but the code for the virtual machine itself is actually different, and when it comes to libraries, OpenJDK tends to use open libraries while Oracle tends to use closed ones; for instance, the font library.

     

    Is the Server Affected?

     

    The Server was not affected by this exploit as the server uses OpenJDK 1.8 which had this fixed.

    I am glad that I used the Beta Version of Mageia that has updated dependencies and took the extra downtime. This would of been a nightmare to take care of. Looks like the downtime actually benefited us for once

    Ever since the DBServer was having problems it has been effecting the stability of the server. We are almost positive that it will raise the stability when I get the primary server running again, now that the DBServer is fixed.

  13. Hi,

     

    We recently did a rollback to stop a griefing of spawn. Please note that the server said "Temporary!" meaning stuff was not being logged with Logblock. Recently that has changed though and everything now will be logged (as of last night).

     

    I do believe that your items should not have rolled back. The main survival world has been weird, I havent been resetting player data yet, it seems that it has. I do nbot know the actual cause of why this happens, your satisfaction is my priority so if you have something in mind that I can exclusively compensate you with let me know.

  14. Please Note, that Ender Dragons currently are prohibited from fighting. It creates tons of lag on the server and we are already low on system resources due to the other machine still being repaired from a Ethernet Adapter failure. Not to mention the EXP orbs would be a nightmare.

     

     

    When I restored from a backup and put in Multiverse Inventories it was supposed to be a security measure to prevent items from creative going to Survival. Just make sure a manager is on the server while you fight the enderdragon, so that a ClearLagg can be launched if the XP orbs become too much for the server.

    Dude, we lost interest in you guys a long time ago. Color and Arc have become more threatening then you guys ever will be. They have talked about hititng you guys next and to be quite frank, I can't wait to see what will happen considering we nearly got obliterated twice.

     

    That conversation barely affects this community today except by proving to us that the ND Staff are just a group of autists (Except -blam!-). Now you are welcome to play on our servers let me just remind you that you are walking a fine line on the terms of rules on this community but begin breaking the rules and you will find yourself gone.

    You all are probably bored out of your mind due to the intense DDoS, as obviously evidenced due to the lack of people on the forums. I have gotten a date that the new IP will be given to me to activate.

     

    I know its absolutely unacceptable for the downtime that occurred, and is even worse for players who are on spring break right now. This has already affected me a bit regarding finances and I had to spend a handful of money just to make sure that I am properly protected. I am going to compensate everyone for this unfortunate event.

    From Friday to Sunday all players will enjoy Platinum permissions for absolutely no cost , before being reverted back to your old rank.

     

    You then have an option to donate for a rank at a discounted price.

     

     

     

    Minecraft TOS Update:

    Proxies are now allowed on the server once more.

    You may only connect to the server using the given ip mc.chaoticunited.net

    If a numeric IP is used to connect to the server, we will know and will ban you for violating the rules by not going through the DDoS protection check.

     

     

    Permission Updates:

    • IP Banning will no longer be given to any rank but console due to the DDoS protection masking everyones IP. In other words if someone IP bans a players IP using the DDoS protection then everyone using the DDoS protection gets banned.

     

     

     

    DBServer Updates:

    • Distance Latency has been fixed and the TempVPS will no longer be used and all data will be moved back to the DBServer that can send queries locally on the network instead of sending it through the web to a server located in the UK. This reduces LB from being overloaded so easily.
    • DBServer will certificates changed to accommodate for the new version of OpenSSL that was just recently configured.

    Mumble Server

    • Mumble data has been lost in the transition to Windows Server 2012 R2, you will need to register once more.
    • Mumble SSL Certificates changed, this IS not a security breech.

     

    DDoS Protection

    Upgraded all services now use DDoS protection except for the forum.

  17. Update:

     

    The New IP Address will be acquired on Tuesday, the time Chaotic United still has to be determined because of me having to study for a quiz that day.

     

    However with this new IP address I have confidence that we have blocked the method of hitting the server directly instead of having to go through the DDoS protection which makes a majority of DDoS attacks only lag the server a bit. The actual IP will be impossible to find now that I do not use the same IP address as the server. The server room has its own IP address and my desktop is in the server room. But now I've gone through the trouble of putting a 2nd IP address that will NEVER be known to anyone except me.

     

    It seems whoever is doing this has well knowledge of my schedule, and always seems to strike at the worst possible time for me.

     

    I sincerely apologize for this downtime that I was not expecting to occur and I promise that for players that have spring break this week, the server will be up tomorrow night.
